Dr. Polly Michaels was born and raised in Duluth, Georgia, located in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from The University of Georgia and in 1998 she graduated from The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, earning a Doctorate in Dental Medicine. For the next eight years, Dr. Michaels was an Officer in the Commissioned Corps under the command of the Surgeon General, practicing in Washington State, Oklahoma and Alaska, before entering private practice in the Denver, Colorado area. After moving to Florida, Dr. Michaels practiced in the Naples area before settling down in Hernando County and starting her own private practice in 2010.
In July 2002, Dr. Michaels completed a hospital-based, two-year, Advanced General Practice Residency at Hastings Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. This residency included experience in the Operating Room, where Dr. Michaels was trained by anesthesiologists and internal medicine doctors. Working closely with dental specialists, Dr. Michaels refined and enhanced her abilities. In order to better serve her patients, Dr. Michaels expanded the variety of procedures she could perform to include some of those commonly referred to specialists. She also worked with medically complex and compromised patients including transplant patients, patients with severe cardiovascular disease, dialysis patients, cancer patients and trauma patients. By working closely with the patients’ medical physicians, a team was formed to provide the best care possible. Dr. Michaels continues to communicate with her patients’ physicians to ensure their health and safety, and to achieve the best oral health outcome possible.
Dr. Michaels is dedicated to continual learning and developing a dynamic dental practice where the highest quality care is provided to her patients in a clean, caring environment. She is a Board Certified Oral Implantologist who is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology. This is the most prestigious accomplishment and qualification available in Implant Dentistry. Dr. Michaels is also a Fellow of both the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. In addition to her training and experience in the administration of oral conscious sedation, Dr. Michaels also holds advanced licensure in IV sedation. Dr. Michaels is an Affiliate Clinical Instructor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry, a National Speaker on Dental Implantology, and a member of the National Dental Practice-Based Research Network.
Dr. Michaels lives in Homosassa and has been married to Robert for over 20 years. She has twin boys, Brody and Camden. Dr. Michaels enjoys wakeboarding, snow skiing, taekwondo, paddleboarding, camping, playing the clarinet and spending time with her family.
