Single Tooth Replacement Treatment

When you come in for a single tooth replacement, Dr. Michaels will need to perform at least two surgeries. The first procedure consists of a titanium post being surgically inserted into your jawbone that remains under your gum line.

After you have sufficiently healed from this surgery, our implantologist in Weeki Wachee, FL, will have you return for a second surgical procedure for uncovering the titanium post from under your gum line.Once the post is exposed, a special extension piece is attached. This allows Dr. Michaels to affix your new replacement tooth to the extension, thereby restoring both the form and function of your tooth.

After healing from the second surgical procedure, you may return to a normal diet and eat the foods you love without fear of pain or discomfort.

How Long Does Treatment Take?

Following your first surgical procedure, you will need to allow your jaw and gums time to heal. This healing period can last up to six months, during which time your jawbone works to integrate with the new titanium implant. The second surgery is far less extensive. You will need to allow between seven and ten days for any swelling to go down, after which time you may resume your regular diet.

Some factors can affect your treatment time. If your jaw requires a bone graft, for example, you might need to heal for several months before you are ready to receive the dental implant.
