Do You Need Full Lower Replacement?

If your lower teeth are missing or broken, you can likely benefit from a full lower replacement. Our patients elect for this procedure for a variety of reasons. Some wish to improve the appearance of their smile, while others are tired of dentures and adhesives.

Thanks to the long-lasting nature of dental implants, you can look forward to having all of your lower teeth for a lifetime.

Treatment for Full Lower Replacement

During treatment for a full lower replacement, Dr. Michaels and her team of specialists will perform surgical procedures that involve placing four to six titanium implants into your mandible or lower jawbone. These implants remain under your gums until a later date.

If you don’t have a healthy bone structure to support the titanium, Dr. Michaels can perform a bone graft to rebuild your mandible so that it safely holds the implants. Depending on your oral health, any broken teeth still present in your mouth will need to be extracted prior to getting a full lower replacement. Most patients require up to six months to heal from the first implant surgery. This allows for your jawbone to graft with the artificial implant.

Once you have healed, you will come back in for another procedure that involves exposing the implants and attaching extensions to them. Your new dental implants are then affixed to these extensions, leaving you with a full set of lower teeth.
